CHILD+SPONSORSHIP
"Children are the hands by which we hold heaven." - Henry Ward Beacher

Throughout East Africa vulnerable children are being deprived of an education.  From an early age, they have to work fetching water, carrying firewood or digging in the field.  Often their water is dirty, food is scarce and weakening diseases make their lives unbearably hard.  However, the greatest tragedy is the lack of the opportunity to reach their full potential by the nurturing of their minds, and this greatly handicaps their ability to do better for themselves.

Take a stand! A word from Gay, a Fields of Life child sponsor:

Dear Friends,

This week I received a letter and pictures of Amina. She is eight years old and her parents are dead. She and her two sisters live with their grandmother in a village in Kazinga in Uganda. She says in her letter that she likes to help at home, especially washing dishes. They grow potatoes in their garden and they have one goat. They go to the spring everyday to fetch water. Amina's favorite colour is purple. She attends the Joan Jordon Memorial School and she wants to be a doctor.

I proudly shared this letter the other night. This is the child that Michael and I are sponsoring so that she may have the opportunity to go to school.

She is real. Her skin is a smooth dark tone, and her hair is kept quite short. She is wearing a pale turquoise dress and she and her grandmother are not wearing shoes. She is beautiful. She is only eight. When I stare at her, I don't feel that she is in Uganda. I feel she is living in my heart.

I am giving so that she lives in a world of possibilities. I am taking a stand so she may be fulfilled in her humanity; that she knows that there is LOVE in this world, and that her LIFE MATTERS and that she deserves fulfillment of ALL she is passionate about.

Are you enrolled? Will you join me in the commitment to transform this world, in our lifetime for ALL of us?

Given the opportunity to go to school, these East African children could develop skills that would enable them to break out of the cycle of scarcity and hardship.  We assist local communities by firstly constructing schools, and then by supporting those school with our education and child sponsorship programmes. Our Child Sponsorship programme ensures that children in need are being identified and provided the assistance necessary to enable them to attend school and become productive adults.
