The average person may lose a pen each day. However, in the East African countries, children cannot afford basic items of education such as a pencil or pen to use in school. We frequently see children selflessly cut a pencil in half and share it with another, so they can both have something to write with!
The Write Gift is a programme that was implemented in an effort to provide writing materials for students in East African countries. These schools have no or little access to the basic necessities of schooling. We hope to have enough material to supply many rural schools in Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, Congo, and Burundi with pencils, pens and other school supplies. Thankfully, The Write Gift programme has the backing of the Ugandan Vice-President, who has kindly agreed to waive the import tax on these pencil cases as they will be given directly to schools sponsored by Fields of Life.
A Write Gift from a donor like you is more than a pencil or a pencil case; it is an investment in a vital tool for a child's education. These gifts will be greatly appreciated and on the children's behalf we say a warm "Webale nnyo" ("Asante Sana") (Thank You).
It is simple really, you or your group, pack pencil case(s) with writing tools or other materials (see the complete listing in the What is in the Cases? section for further details). If you arrange to send these pencil case(s) to us, we then send them on to the children in East Africa. It is a wonderful and easy way for children to connect with children of East Africa!
